Who We Are

WHO WE ARE

Isiolo Advocacy Network (IAN) is a youth-led, community-based organisation working with communities across Isiolo County to advance social justice, equality, climate action and inclusive development.

We believe that lasting change begins when people have the knowledge, confidence and opportunity to participate in decisions that affect their lives. Our work therefore focuses on strengthening community voices, supporting young people and women to take leadership, and creating spaces where communities can engage with leaders, institutions and other stakeholders.

IAN brings together community organising, advocacy, awareness creation, capacity building and practical action. From supporting young people to develop creative ways of telling their stories, to promoting climate action and community participation, we work to turn local concerns into collective action.

OUR VISION

A just, inclusive and resilient society where every person has the opportunity to participate, influence decisions and live with dignity.

OUR MISSION

To strengthen community voices and support young people and women to advocate for social justice, equality, climate action and inclusive development in Isiolo County.

OUR APPROACH

IAN believes that communities should not simply be beneficiaries of development — they should be active participants in shaping it.

Our approach is rooted in three pillars: Empowerment, Solidarity and Campaigning.

Empowerment means equipping young people, women and communities with information, skills and opportunities to participate meaningfully in issues that affect them.

Solidarity means working alongside communities and partners, recognising that lasting change is stronger when people come together around shared challenges and solutions.

Campaigning means amplifying community voices through advocacy, storytelling, public engagement and digital platforms to draw attention to issues that matter and encourage action.

We connect local experiences with wider conversations around social justice, gender equality, poverty, climate change, governance and accountability. We value practical action, community knowledge and partnerships that can turn ideas into meaningful results.

WHO WE WORK WITH

IAN primarily works with young people, women and communities across Isiolo County, particularly people and groups whose voices are often underrepresented in decision-making.

We work with youth groups, community members, local leaders, civil society organisations, grassroots initiatives, institutions and partners who share a commitment to creating positive change.

We recognise the important role young people can play in shaping the future of their communities. We create opportunities for them to build skills, participate in advocacy, express themselves and become active contributors to community development.

We also work to ensure that women and other community members have space to raise their concerns, participate in public conversations and contribute to solutions.

At IAN, we believe change is not something done for communities. It is something built with them.
